Maybe.

I don’t think its necessarily the “best” but it is in the sense that its the only one that can bias torque fully...sure.

The answer is always worm gears.....unless it’s lockers.

The true answer is lockable worm gears. A triple torsen with locking collars on all differentials plus a traction control system would be pretty killer. You wouldn’t need to lock the diffs 95% of the time, but have them for the other 5%

Turning gets kinda difficult with all those diffs locked.

exactly. I love having a front locker but seeing my buddies ATRAC system up front and locker in back go around corners makes me a little jealous. with mine its all or nothing and the happy middle ground of traction control front and rear locker are more useable more of the time.

When traction is good but I want to go really slow I will just use low range without engaging the front hubs. It is great when using the truck for yard work.

Depends on what you are trying to do with it. If you want the best handling 4WD, you want a center LSD with a front and rear torque vectoring diff. Triple lockers is probably the best off-road option, but only if you are going slow. If you want to go fast offroad, center LSD with torque vectoring is probably still the best option.

I am still hoping someone makes an electric all wheel drive with separate motors for each corner. Amazing low end torque plus full torque vectoring. Mmmm.

Very number based, but quite shallow on the mechanics. I’ve found your write-ups on 4WD/AWD systems more in depth and more interesting.

Thanks! I think Jason’s videos are good but I have to remind myself that they aren’t for people looking for a deep dive. Just concepts and such
